It is with very deep sorrow we report on the passing of Jack. He was one of the good ones. He welcomed me into the club as he had with many others over the years. His big booming voice and big smile will be missed by all who knew him.
We wish to pass our regards to Eve and the family.
Jack was someone who found a way to have fun no matter what he was faced with. I always enjoyed his laugh and he had a way to enjoy the day. He would offer the passenger seat to anyone at the autocross and as you belted in he would laugh and say “do you realize that you have agreed to go around the course with a guy who could have a sizeure at any moment!”. He thought that was hilarious. And maybe it was!
I know there are a few of our members who knew him better that I and I know they are hurting. Jack left a real impression and I will miss him as well. I would like to encourage anyone who would like to write a message about Jack to do so on this post.
He lived his life well.
Safety Fast Jack.
Hugh
I haven’t been with the club long but Jack was the first to offer me a ride at autocross and one of the first to make an impression on me as a newcomer to the club and the sport.
Jack was a warm man, with a great laugh, and made everyone feel welcome. We were lucky to have him in our club and he will surely be missed.

Jack was a true friend and original. I met him the first meeting at the club and he was always a great spirit. He definitely left a strong positive impression and a few bad jokes were offered. Miss you Jack!
Jack was an original, he laughed at me doing the training course in a Ford Escape. He was amazed at the pickup it had, till I told him it had a v6. Did you know he was a paramedic, so on slalom day you all had twice the coverage. He shared how his cancer went and it helped me deal with mine. With Jack it was, if you got back up–you never really fell down.
Safety fast Jack!
Jack Baker was a big man. Big of heart; big of humour; big of good driving; big of our club. Jack was an “all in” club member, participatinng in most club events, especially autocross which he loved. He was club treasurer for close to 2 decades, enlivening his monthy reports with his jokes of the month and in his spare time produced club calenders and membership cards even after he wasn’t feeling 100%. which I greatly appreciated as membership chair. Thank you Jack. We have lost a valuable club member.
I loved showing up to an VMGC event and seeing Jack and his lovely white MGB. He always had a smile on his face as he ran the course and seemed even happier when he found someone to ride along with him.
The last time I saw him he told me this was his last event. I paused; sad to hear this news. I asked him why and he told me he felt it was time to hang up the helmet. I did not realize it would be the last time I saw him. Condolences to Jack’s family and friends, he will be missed but hopefully he is bombing along a course somewhere giving someone a bit of a scare.
