Magic of MG

Mandate of the Victoria MG Club

The Morris Garage, Ltd., of Oxford, began building small sports cars from stock Morris parts in the 1920's. By 1929 the MG Car Company was established as a distinct car builder at Abingdon-on-Thames where it remained throughout its subsequent history. The company was known for its reasonably priced sports cars which were familiar entrants in rallies, hill-climbs, racing, and even land-speed record successes, getting amazing performance from small engines and well-designed chassis. The company also produced a number of fast sporting saloons. MG models proved to be sturdy and dependable, epitomizing the company motto "Safety Fast".

In October, 1980, the last MG left Abingdon, ending over 50 years of car production. Since that time the MG badge has adorned a number of 'warmed-up' Austin-Rover production cars for the English market, but worldwide the MGB was the last of the line. Today all models of MG are increasing in value as owners restore and maintain their cars or rediscover the delights of driving an outdated British sports car in the sporting manner.

The Victoria MG Club was formed in 1981, dedicated to those who enjoy both driving their cars and meeting socially with others having like interests. The club holds monthly meetings, publishes a newsletter and sponsors regular events such as rallies, slaloms or gymkhanas. In 1984, the young club hosted the 'Gathering of the Faithful (West)', the largest annual meeting of MGs from all over North America's West Coast. Over 300 cars, from 1929 to the latest models of MGB were displayed in Victoria during a five day period.

Membership in the Victoria MG Club is open to anyone who has an interest in British cars. Ownership of an MG is definitely not a requirement for joining; just bring your enthusiasm and let us nourish your interest in British sports cars in general and the amazing MG in particular.
